As mentioned in the Bulletin, the Committee’s application to Greenpledge at Wandsworth for funding for a shredder has been successful. The application had to meet the criteria that the provision of a shredder for the use of RGS members would increase recycling and composting and reduce car-use in taking compostable rubbish to the Wandsworth Dump.

The location for the secure siting of the shredder was dictated by the need for an electrical connection and an ideal place is being provided in the form of the old Site 2 loo next to the Store. The Committee would like to thank Geoff Smith for his work in making the necessary alterations here.

Once safely and securely stored, plot-holders will be able to gain access to it with their gate key at any time.

Notice of availability will be posted up asap.

Site 3 is currently being troubled by trespassers and vandals. The Society is doing all in its power to resolve the problem but needs the help of plot holders. If you see an act of trespass or vandalism in progress please do the following:

o	Where possible, use your mobile ‘phone to photograph the perpetrator(s)

o	Immediately call the Safer Neighbourhoods Team on 07747757590 or 020 8721 2760 and report the incident

o	If safe to do so, speak to the perpetrator(s) and elicit name(s) and address(es)

Of significant importance is ensuring that the (grey) security gates at the Dover House and Huntingfield Road entrances are locked at all times. The second gate at Huntingfield Road is locked to prevent dog soiling and does not provide a security benefit.

The show will be held on Saturday 4 September at 3.00 pm in St Margaret’s Church Hall, Putney Park Lane, Putney, SW15 5HU.

The rules for exhibitors and the list of classes can be downloaded here along with the entry forms.

I know that many people do not consider growing produce a competitive activity but please enter as many classes as you can. It looks great seeing the hall full of the fruits of our labours. So may the best man/woman win (except in the cactus Dahlias class!)

Firstly belated Happy 2010, may it be prosperous, fecund and abundant.

Secondly a request. The new site has been going for a few months now, and from a technical point of view it’s a definite step up from the previous one (well it hasn’t crash yet anyway.) It also does a reasonable job providing official RGS information; bulletins, show winners etc.

What it is lacking is original content!!! This could be anything from a bit of news, a post on how bad your black fly is this year to a detailed article on composting. Photos, video the more the merrier.

Now I am not that sure if anyone actually visits the site, but if you do and you have something of interest to say to RGS members and Roehampton allotment holders then please get in touch, via the contact us section of the site.
