Prices

The charge from April 2009 is £16.50 per rod for full payers and £10.50 per rod for concessions (over 60s and disabled). That is, 66p per square metre or 42p per square metre at the lower rate (one rod is approximately 25 square metres). Plot sizes vary from 1 rod to 10 rods. Due to demand, when large plots become available we consider splitting them in two.

Rents are due on 1 April. Prices are revised each year.

Time commitment

Allotments can be enormously satisfying but please be aware that keeping one can also be a major time commitment. Allotment holders spend from 10-15 hours a week during the summer, to 2-3 hours a week during winter regularly, tending their plots. The rewards may be fresh vegetables, fruit and flowers, and good social contacts with other gardeners – or a weed-grown wilderness and mutterings from neighbours if you cannot find the time to maintain it.

Likewise, in making your application, either the distance or the convenience of your journey must be a consideration
