There is a long tradition of keeping bees or poultry on allotments. As our allotments plots grow smaller, keeping either needs careful thought.
Bees
Bees have long been regarded as partners in pollination of crops and a good friend to fruit and vegetable growers.
The beekeeper owes a duty of care to the public near the hives, including residents and passers by.

Poultry
Keeping hens for eggs is now made more difficult by the foxes that populate our allotments.
There is a separate application to Wandsworth for keeping hens and detailed regulations about health, security and hygiene.
Trading is not permitted.

If you are thinking of managing a bee hive, please contact a local bee-keeping organisation for help.
The Wimbledon Bee Keepers Association runs useful courses.
Poultry
Wandsworth has strict rules about keeping poultry on allotments. You are permitted to keep chickens, bantams and hens for laying eggs, but NOT other poultry (ducks, geese, turkeys, etc) or roosters or cockerels.
