FAQ: Rubbish and Recycling

Green Waste
We highly recommend composting your green waste. It’s not just disposal, it will nurture your soil. There many different sizes and shapes of composters and bins – so do take a walk around and see what other plotholders use.
Rubbish Collection
There are no bins for rubbish on the allotment sites. It is your responsibility to remove rubbish and take it away. Plastic plant pots can’t be re-cycled at present, and should be taken to the Wandsworth recycling centre at Smuggler’s Way.
Please never leave rubbish outside the allotment gates – it will not be collected.
Wandsworth Mega Skips
There is a useful Mega-Skip collection on Putney Park Lane, outside St. Margaret’s Church once a month on a Saturday morning. Dates for the skips are published on our website. Only Wandsworth residents are allowed to use the skips, but you can add up to 4 bags of rubbish and some larger items. Take some proof of address. You can check the dates here.
Annual Rubbish Collection
Each November Enable organise a very helpful rubbish collection from both sites.
This is particularly useful now that bonfires are banned, so please help to make it go smoothly.
They will collect most non-compostable allotment rubbish if it is bagged up.
No bags of soil and no glass, please.
• Compost as much green waste as you can
• Anything that can’t be composted should be bagged up and tied securely
• Don’t make the bags too heavy or overfull – remember that a human being has to pick up the bags and throw onto a truck, so no bags of soil, please.
• Put any glass into the box labelled GLASS
• Stack bags neatly – also metal pipes, planks of wood, etc.
This is for horticultural rubbish generated on the allotments only, – please don’t bring anything from home.
The collection will not go ahead if these conditions are not met.
